Detailed pruning. Natural form.
We take pride in careful, detailed pruning. Our trained crew puts in the extra time and effort to use pole pruners, pole saws, handsaws, and pruning shears whenever possible, keeping chainsaw use to a minimum. We focus on preserving each tree’s natural structure, limiting unnecessary wounds, and avoiding excessive crown removal and improper heading cuts. That attention to detail is what sets our pruning apart.
Structural pruning
We guide young trees as they develop and address competing stems and branch structure in established trees. Depending on the tree, selective reduction may be more appropriate than removing a large limb. The aim is stronger structure with carefully chosen cuts.
End-weight thinning & reduction
We selectively reduce weight and length at branch ends where the tree and pruning objective call for it. We choose cuts carefully, retain appropriate interior growth, and avoid unnecessary wounds and excessive canopy removal.
Deadwood removal
Remove dead branches with careful attention to proper cuts.
Vista & view pruning
Pruning to open up views while respecting the tree’s natural structure and form.
Clearance pruning
Create appropriate clearance around houses, gutters, and property lines.
Restoration pruning
Address previous pruning damage, broken limbs, and structural concerns with a plan for improvement.
Some restoration work can be addressed in one visit. Other trees benefit from a plan over several years, with realistic goals for healthier, more natural growth.

Questions about pruning.
When is the right time to prune my tree?
Timing depends on the species, condition, and purpose of the work. We consider the tree’s growth cycle and relevant disease concerns before recommending a schedule. There isn’t one pruning month that suits every Bay Area tree.
Does every tree need thinning?
No. A dense canopy alone is not a reason to remove branches. Pruning should have a clear purpose, such as clearance, deadwood removal, or a structural concern, while retaining the foliage the tree needs.
Can you reduce a tree without topping it?
Where suitable, selective reduction can address branch length or spread while respecting natural form. It is different from indiscriminately cutting the top off a tree. We discuss what can reasonably be achieved for your particular tree.
How much does tree pruning cost?
The scope of the work, tree size and condition, access, nearby structures, and cleanup requirements all affect the estimate. Contact our office with your city and a short description so we can arrange a visit and discuss the work.
Do you use chainsaws when pruning?
Our crew uses pole pruners, pole saws, handsaws, and pruning shears whenever possible, keeping chainsaw use to a minimum. The pruning objective and careful cut selection guide the work.
What if my tree has been badly pruned before?
We assess its condition and discuss realistic restoration goals. Some work may be suitable for one visit; other trees need a longer-term plan. Recovery depends on the tree and the extent of the damage.
Is cleanup part of the service?
Thorough cleanup is part of the care we provide. We discuss the scope of the work with you so you know what to expect when the crew finishes.
