01 / OUR SPECIALTY
Pruning
Proper pruning is knowing what to leave, not just what to remove.
We take pride in careful, detailed pruning. Our trained crew puts in the extra time and effort to use pole pruners, pole saws, handsaws, and pruning shears whenever possible, keeping chainsaw use to a minimum. We focus on preserving each tree’s natural structure, limiting unnecessary wounds, and avoiding excessive crown removal and improper heading cuts. That attention to detail is what sets our pruning apart.
Structural pruning
Whether it’s removing a codominant stem from a juvenile tree or removing structural defects in mature trees, structural pruning is all about making sure the tree is structurally sound.
End-weight thinning & reduction
Proper pruning works from the outside of the canopy inward, reducing weight at branch ends and allowing air to flow through the canopy. We choose our cuts carefully to avoid creating wounds the tree may struggle to compartmentalize.
Deadwood removal
Remove dead branches with careful attention to proper cuts.
Vista & view pruning
Pruning to open up views while respecting the tree’s natural structure and form.
Clearance pruning
Create appropriate clearance around houses, gutters, and property lines.
Restoration pruning
Address previous pruning damage, broken limbs, and structural concerns with a plan for improvement.
Some restoration work can be addressed in one visit. Other trees benefit from a plan over several years, with realistic goals for healthier, more natural growth.

03 / TREE SERVICES
Planting
A good start begins with a well-chosen tree. Charles works with several nurseries and hand-picks trees for their structure, bringing an arborist’s eye to the selection.
- Arborist-selected nursery trees from a wide variety of choices
- Properly sized planting holes and mulch to help retain moisture
- Care as the tree establishes, followed by structural pruning as it develops
We pay attention to growth through the early years and help guide a young tree toward a sound, natural form.

Plant Health Care
A tree’s declining health can have more than one cause. We look at the tree, its growing conditions, and its history before recommending a course of care.
- Soil, root, disease, and insect concerns
- Sunburn, too much or too little sun, and weather damage
- Effects of unsuitable planting locations or previous pruning
The recommendation follows the findings. For trees affected by past damage, that may mean a staged recovery plan rather than a single treatment.
05 / TREE SERVICES
Tree Risk Assessment
Understand the tree and the setting around it. Our assessment considers conditions from the roots to the canopy, along with the tree’s location near buildings, driveways, sidewalks, and streets.
- Rooting, stability, soil conditions, and tree health
- Branch unions, competing leaders, canopy weight, and weather exposure
- The tree’s surroundings and the potential consequences of failure
We offer written reports and a discussion of the findings, so you can understand the concerns and your options.
06 / BELOW THE SURFACE
Soil & Root
Evaluation
Healthy growth starts with the conditions around the roots.
What is happening below ground can help explain what you see in the canopy. We investigate the growing conditions and consider the variables before recommending work.
- Compacted soil and limited oxygen around roots
- Too little water, too much water, and moisture concerns
- Nutrient availability and biological activity in the soil
Our approach is to understand the cause, then develop a practical plan to improve the growing conditions. The right recommendation depends on the tree and the site.
